Dr. Nick Notes
Blue Tansy essential oil is a unique extract that is relatively uncommon on the essential oil market - highly medicinal, with an exotic & inviting sweet floral aroma. Â Of valuable mention is the potent anti-histamingeric properties Blue Tansy oil elicits ~ for allergy season, my personal formulation is a combination (50/50%) of Helichrysum & Blue Tansy (or German Chamomile) seems to greatly reduce seasonal rhinitis (allergies) symptoms for several hours by applying directly below the nostrils.
A powerful anti-inflammatory extract, Blue Tansy can be coupled into pain formulations, stress ointments. Â Chamzulene (also found in steam distilled German Chamomile) is the molecule responsible for the dark blue tint and is produced during the distillation / heating process. Chamzulene has great anti-inflammatory and relaxant properties. The aromatic profile is quite unique and creates very intriguing medicinal botanical perfumes.
Blue tansy oil has a history of being used for asthma, eczema, bug bites, sunburn, and muscle aches. The aroma is mentally stimulating/cleansing while relaxing to the nervous system. Truly a unique botanical ingredient that is a valuable medicinal extract to keep in one’s medicine cabinet! This oil is fantastic in the world of botanical perfumery, emitting an aroma unlike any other botanical <3

Frequently Asked Questions
Blue Tansy essential oil is steam distilled from the flowers of Tanacetum annuum, an organic plant grown in Morocco. It gets its striking deep blue color from a compound called chamazulene, which forms during the distillation process. It is important to note that Blue Tansy (Tanacetum annuum) is a completely different plant from common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare), which contains high levels of thujone and is considered toxic.
Blue Tansy is prized for its anti-inflammatory and calming properties, largely attributed to its chamazulene content. It is widely used in natural skin care for soothing irritated, reactive, or inflamed skin. In aromatherapy, it has a calming and centering effect that can help with emotional stress and tension. One should note that chamazulene is not found in the plant and is produced during the distillation process, and yields a rich blue color.
Blue Tansy has a sweet, herbaceous, and slightly fruity aroma with subtle camphoraceous notes. Many people describe it as pleasantly sweet and apple-like, which sets it apart from the sharper herbal scents of other chamomile-family oils. The color is a vivid indigo blue that naturally tints carrier oils and formulations.
Dilute to 1 to 3 percent in a carrier oil for facial serums and skin care blends. It is gentle enough for most skin types at proper dilution. You can also diffuse it for calming aromatherapy. Avoid confusing it with common tansy, which is a different species with different chemistry and safety considerations. As with all essential oils, consult a healthcare provider before use during pregnancy.
Blue Tansy works beautifully with other skin-supportive oils like Helichrysum, German Chamomile, Lavender, and Tamanu Oil. For calming blends, pair it with Vetiver, Frankincense, or Roman Chamomile. In natural perfumery, its sweet blue character adds a unique dimension when layered with Rose, Neroli, or Cistus. Our product Easeolution is a fantastic pre-formulated blend by Essential Oil Wizardry which includes Blue Tansy oil.
