Dr. Nick's Notes
My first time encountering Sassafras, I was gifted some roots from the Midwest. A previous team member had dug some roots up and given them to me when she moved to Ashland, Oregon. Sassafras Root & Bark have a very unique flavor and aroma profile, something akin to Star Anise, Cinnamon, Citrus & Vanilla notes. Root Beer was originally flavored using Sassafras – and around the 1960’s, it was no longer the flavoring agent for these drinks.
There’s a unique controversy around Sassafras – some early research suggests it may cause liver cancer, though the dosing is not reflective of realistic quantities, and is well beyond what is present in our tincture. Other research suggests anti-tumor qualities in several different organs. One thing worth noting about this ban of Sassafras root as a flavoring agent, is for the key ingredient in it’s essential oil: Safrole. Safrole is said to be a primary starting material in MDMA.
With all of this shared, I use our Ultrasonic Sassafras Tincture responsibly as a flavoring agent, to boost the mood or energy levels, and for various benefits. I find our Sassafras Tincture to soften cravings for sweets and be a great ingredient in teas and homemade brews. Sassafras has notable anti-parasitic qualities and was a medicine to Native American culture for hundreds of years.
