Dr. Nick Notes
RavINTsara oil is a powerful extract which was one of the first unique and potent essential oils I learned of in 2011 from John Steele – RavINTsara essential oil is commonly mistaken with Ravensara on the essential oil market, which I extended the same mistake for many years. This is cool and refreshing, uplifting with powerful expectorant qualities. Applied into a diffuser, using the palm-inhalation method, vaporized in or applied into a carrier oil to be applied over the chest (ie. Argan oil)
Cinnamomum camphora is native to China south of the Yangtze River, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and Madagascar (where ours is sourced from). Madagascar produces some very refreshing oil when the leaves are distilled, superior for symptomatic relief for respiratory dysfunction. Over the years, some clients have reported great short-term effects using RavINTsara oil (often mistaken for Ravensara in my past) using a diffuser or vaporizer (Essential VAAAPP) to support asthma, COPD and other respiratory dysfunction.
RavINTsara essential oil is a wonderful, inexpensive and powerful broad-spectrum extract to keep around your aromatic treasure collection! Combines phenomenally for home-made therapeutic remedies and diffusing into an environment so effervescently!
How to Use
- Apply 1-3 drops into the hands, rub hands together and gently cup the hands in front of the nose/mouth, take 1-3 deep inhalations for congestion and respiratory relief
- Instill 1 drop into a vial, attach to the Essential VAAAPP & gently heat and take a deep inhalation to open the throat and lungs. Wonderful at first sign of cold/flu.
- Infuse 2.5-10% into your favorite carrier oil and use for for a massage oil. Great applied to the chest during cold / flu.
- Apply into the feet during a nice warm bath to stimulate the immune system. Close eyes to avoid the volatile oils irritating the eyes if the bath is warmer-hot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ravintsara is steam distilled from the leaves of Cinnamomum camphora ct. cineole, an organic tree grown in Madagascar. Despite the similar name, Ravintsara and Ravensara (Ravensara aromatica) are completely different plants with different chemical profiles. Ravintsara is high in 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), making it a powerful respiratory and immune support oil. This is one of the most commonly confused pairs in aromatherapy.
Ravintsara is considered one of the strongest antiviral essential oils available. It is widely used for immune support during cold and flu season, for clearing respiratory congestion, and as an energizing pick-me-up. Its high eucalyptol content makes it effective for opening airways and supporting healthy breathing.
Diffuse during cold and flu season for immune and respiratory support. Blend at 2 to 5 percent in a carrier oil and apply to the chest, back, or bottoms of feet. It can be added to steam inhalations by placing 2 to 3 drops in a bowl of hot water and breathing deeply with a towel over the head. It also works well in DIY cleaning products for its antimicrobial properties.
Ravintsara has a clean, fresh, camphoraceous aroma with a slight sweetness that distinguishes it from plain eucalyptus. It is brighter and less sharp than eucalyptus globulus, making it more pleasant for diffusing and for people who find straight eucalyptus too intense. The scent is clearing and invigorating without being overwhelming.
Ravintsara pairs naturally with Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Niaouli, and Pine for respiratory blends. For immune support formulas, combine it with Frankincense, Oregano, and Lemon. It is also a key component in the family of oils that EOW recommends for seasonal wellness. For a warming chest rub, blend with Peppermint and Lavender in a carrier oil.
