FAQs
Cardamom essential oil at Essential Oil Wizardry is a CO2 extract of organic Elettaria cardamomum, sourced from Guatemala & Tanzania. CO2 extraction preserves a fuller range of the aromatic and therapeutic compounds compared to steam distillation, resulting in a richer, more complex spice profile that closely reflects the whole seed. We also offer the steam distilled cardamom essential oil for a more etheric extract with a more mild flavor profile.
Cardamom CO2 has a warm, sweet, and spicy aroma with subtle camphoraceous and slightly floral undertones. It is deeply comforting and reminiscent of chai tea or Middle Eastern cuisine. The steam distilled cardamom oil expresses a light, peppery, eucalyptole-caraway set of notes, with a very airy quality. The CO2 extraction brings out a depth not present in steam distilled versions. The CO2 extraction yields deep, full-bodied cineolic woody notes with deeper flavor and aroma.
Cardamom is traditionally valued for digestive support, helping to ease nausea, gas, and bloating. It also has warming and respiratory benefits, making it useful during cold weather months. In aromatherapy, it is considered uplifting yet grounding, and is often used to ease feelings of mental fatigue or emotional heaviness. Great combined with coffee, tea and other morning rituals.
Diffuse for a warm, inviting atmosphere or blend into massage oils at 1 to 3 percent dilution. It works beautifully in chest rubs for respiratory comfort during cold and flu season. In natural perfumery, cardamom is a prized spice note that adds warmth and complexity to blends. A small amount goes a long way due to the concentrated nature of the CO2 extraction.
Cardamom pairs naturally with other warming spice oils like Cinnamon Bark, Ginger, Black Pepper, and Nutmeg. For a perfumery application, try it with Neroli, Rose, or Frankincense for a sophisticated warm spicy note. It also complements citrus oils like Bergamot and Blood Orange for uplifting, cozy blends.
