Dr. Nick Notes
Angelica Oil (CO2 Extracted) is such a potent tool for resetting the emotional body, protecting against negative energy, balancing the nervous system, clearing the lymph system and detoxifying the blood. It's no wonder that the Chinese revere this herb, "Dong Quai" as a wonder plant. My experience with Angelica Root oil has been limited to the CO2 Extract / Essential Oil – what I can attest to is the unique acute potency and energetic or magickal qualities.
Angelica Oil is a powerful balancing agent – when applied to the bottom of the feet, the mind slows, emotional capacity completely resets and a person feels restored. This extract works incredibly in conjunction with other energetic protective essences (ie. Galbanum, myrrh, cistus) and is a key component in our Psychic Protection formula. Angelica Root Oil may be used to aid for physical treatment for respiratory conditions (ie. Cold / flu) & the emotional effects along with the ailments. Very grounding yet expansive when used for meditation and as a tool to elevate consciousness.
Pure angelica root oil must be avoided on sensitive skin and should not be applied to the skin if exposed to UV light (avoid for up-to 24 hours).
How to Use
- Combine with Juniper and Black Pepper for the lymph system
- Combine with Frankincense and Myrrh for a cellular restorative synergy
- Diffuse into the environment to cleanse negative energy and balance the emotional system
- Helpful to enhance meditation – massage 1-3 drops into the bottom of the feet
- Infuse 0.5-2.5% into a carrier oil and massage over the belly for upset stomach
- Inhale deeply to physically ground and re-center

Frequently Asked Questions
Angelica essential oil comes from Angelica archangelica, a large aromatic plant in the carrot family native to Europe and Siberia. The oil can be distilled from both the roots and the seeds of the plant, producing oils with somewhat different aromatic profiles. Angelica root oil is earthier, more complex, and musky, while seed oil is lighter and more herbaceous. It has a long history in European herbal medicine and was historically considered one of the great protective and healing plants -- hence the name angelica, with its angelic connotations. Our Angelica essential oil is truly a CO2 extract of Angelica Root from roots grown in Poland.
Angelica root oil has a distinctive, complex scent that is earthy, musky, woody, and slightly peppery with herbaceous undertones. Some people detect a slightly medicinal quality alongside a warm, dry earthiness. Its an unusual and captivating aroma -- very different from most common essential oils, which is part of what makes it valuable to perfumers. Angelica seed oil is lighter and more herbaceous with citrus-like freshness. Both versions are powerful aromatics that reveal more complexity the longer you spend with them.
Angelica has a rich history in European herbal and spiritual tradition. It was used as a protective plant against negative energies and believed to guard against harm -- it was often hung in doorways and used in protective charms. In aromatherapy, angelica oil is used for its warming, grounding qualities and is valued for supporting the nervous system during times of stress or exhaustion. Its used to help with anxiety, nervous tension, and feelings of disconnection or groundlessness.
Yes -- angelica root oil contains furanocoumarins, compounds that can cause photosensitivity and increase the risk of skin damage when exposed to UV light. This means you should avoid applying angelica oil to skin that will be exposed to sunlight within 12-18 hours of application. Angelica seed oil has lower furanocoumarin levels but should still be used with care in sun-exposed areas. Always dilute properly and do a patch test before use.
Angelica root oil is considered a treasure by natural perfumers for its rare, complex, and difficult-to-replicate character. It functions as a middle-to-base note and adds a distinctive earthy, musky, woody depth that is hard to achieve with any other ingredient. It blends beautifully with labdanum, vetiver, and other earthy base notes. It also works well with citrus top notes and herbaceous middles like lavender and clary sage. Because of its photosensitivity considerations, many perfumers use it in low concentrations in evening fragrances.
