Docta's Notes
Rose is a highly prized botanical ingredient used for cosmetic & aromatic purposes. Rich in floral rose expression, rose wax is a product that contains quality plant lipids that are readily absorbed into the skin. When applied to the face daily, the result is a softer skin with increased glow.Â
Over the years I have discovered that the various floral Waxes such as Rose vary rather greatly between suppliers, batches & Rose varietal. Some waxes thicker, aromatic and more sticky while others penetrate deep into the skin with repeated finger polishing. I’ve always been pleasantly blown away by the deliciousness of these Rose lipids independent on consistency. For thicker, stickier & more aromatic oils, try mixing into your favorite carrier oil (ie. Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil)!
Uses: Dip fingers into this aromatic floral wax and rub into body or face as desired. Best with regular daily usage for optimal dermal enhancement. For thicker, denser waxes, you may consider diluting into your favorite carrier oil using 10-25% Wax. Apply pure Rose Wax or infused oil with delight!
[Pro Tip] Another great way to explore & experiment with these Rose Waxes is to develop your own botanical perfume. To do this, you can experiment with adding this wax into your favorite perfumer’s alcohol. We choose to use Organic Honey Spirits, Sugar Cane Alcohol in most of our Exquisite Botanical Perfumes, and recently acquired some Craft Grade Lychee & Coconut alcohols to play with. Start with 40% Wax, 60% Alcohol and let the brew sit for 6 weeks in a cool, dark place. Strain alcohol from wax. Bottle up the Rose Enhanced Alcohol, wear as a Rose Perfume & share as your heart chooses!

FAQs
Rose Wax is a natural byproduct of the solvent extraction process used to create Rose Absolute. When solvent-extracted rose concrete, the initial extract containing both aromatic compounds and natural waxes, is processed with alcohol to separate the aromatic absolute, the waxes that remain behind form Rose Wax. This material is a semi-solid, lightly waxy substance that retains significant amounts of rose aromatic compounds alongside the natural esters, fatty acids, and wax esters present in the rose petal. Rose Wax has a distinctly different aromatic profile from Rose Absolute or Rose Otto, carrying more of the waxy, green, slightly honeyed quality of the fresh rose petal rather than the concentrated pure floral intensity of the absolute. It is a rare and relatively uncommon ingredient in botanical perfumery and natural cosmetics.
Rose Wax has a beautifully natural, understated rose aroma that is closer to burying your face in a fresh rose than to the concentrated intensity of rose absolute or otto. There is a distinctive waxy, slightly honeyed quality to it that gives the rose fragrance a natural texture and depth. The green, slightly dewy freshness of the fresh petal comes through more clearly than in the absolute, making Rose Wax smell simultaneously like rose and like the morning garden from which the rose was just harvested. It is a subtle, sophisticated aromatic material that rewards close attention and is particularly beloved by natural perfumers seeking a more transparent, fresh, and naturalistically rose expression in their compositions.
Rose Wax has remarkable functional properties for skin care applications beyond its aromatic value. Its natural wax composition gives it excellent emollient and occlusant properties, forming a breathable protective layer on the skin that locks in moisture without clogging pores. It melts at just above body temperature, making it ideal for lip balms, solid perfumes, body bars, and face creams where a luxurious, silky texture is desired. Its rose aromatic compounds provide the aromatic experience of rose without requiring additional fragrance addition. Rose Wax is compatible with virtually all cosmetic carrier oils and butters and blends smoothly into formulas at percentages of 2 to 10 percent depending on the desired texture. It is a premium ingredient in clean beauty formulations.
In natural perfumery, Rose Wax is used as a fixative and a textural aromatic ingredient that adds longevity, depth, and a beautiful naturalistic quality to rose-forward compositions. Its waxy matrix slows the evaporation of more volatile aromatic compounds, meaning that perfumes or solid fragrances formulated with Rose Wax tend to have better longevity on skin than those relying solely on volatile oils. In solid perfume applications, Rose Wax melts at skin temperature to release its aromatic compounds gradually over hours of wear. It blends particularly well with rose absolute and otto for layered, multi-dimensional rose compositions, with geranium for fresh floral complexity, and with sandalwood, vanilla, and benzoin for warm, oriental rose bases.
Rose Wax is generally exceptionally gentle and well tolerated, making it suitable for even sensitive, reactive, and compromised skin types. Rose has been used for skin care for thousands of years with an excellent safety record across virtually all skin types. The wax form, being a natural emollient rather than a concentrated aromatic liquid, is even gentler than rose absolute or otto at typical use concentrations. Those with known rose or botanical allergies should perform a patch test before widespread use, but sensitization to Rose Wax is uncommon. It is non-phototoxic and free from the synthetic preservatives and emulsifiers that cause most modern skincare sensitivities. Rose Wax is suitable for face, lip, and body applications and makes a particularly nourishing choice for dry or mature skin.
