Dr. Nick Notes
My mentor Ravi Das [Will Lapaz, former owner of Eden Botanicals] once told me about 90-95% of amber oil available on the market is synthetic! This tree produces a true natural amber oil distilled from the “sweet gum” resin. Calming & grounding for the nervous system, perhaps this amber extract is best known for it’s aromatic properties.
This particular hydrodistilled oil comes from wildharvested trees in Honduras. This amber oil extract is derived from the resinous sap that exudes from the outer bark when the tree is damaged. The resinous sap is known as “storax” or “styrax”. This sap has been used for centuries to treat common symptoms such as coughs, ulcers, skin issues, and infections. Styrax liquidambar or Liquidambar styraciflua is also reported to be burned as an incense and may be mixed with tobacco leaves for a sedating effect. It has been shown to have natural pesticide effects for agricultural purposes as well.
Styrax liquidambar produces an Amber oil which is extremely sticky and thick making it incredibly difficult to work with (ie.too thick to pour through a traditional euro top with orifice reducer). Essential Oil Wizardry has formulated this product to be more harmonious with the skin and easier to blend by infusing the Styrax liquidambar extract into Fractionated Coconut Oil infused with ORMUS. The resulting product is rich, soothing and very balanced with it’s potency while providing a great feel on the skin and allows for ease of usage!
