Dr. Nick Notes

Passionflower is an exotic climbing vine with many names and some suitable therapeutic qualities.  Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is also known as apricot vine, corona de cristo (Crown of Christ), fleur de la passion / flor de passion (Flower of Passion), maypop, passion vine.  This purple passion flower was used by First Nation’s people in America and has had long interest by European & South America countries.

The mechanism of action for Passionflower is perceived to be primarily Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) receptor activation from GABA and other flavinoids. Passionflower has some weak Monoamine Oxidase Inhibition (MAOI) qualities (ie. Harmine, Harmaline) which may cause some drug-herb interactions.

Our single botanical Ultrasonic Extracted Passion Flower Extract Tincture is my first deep dive into the gifts this flower has to offer without other plant synergy.  My experience with our Passionflower Tincture is above subtle yet very gentle and clear.  The most profound quality of Passionflower, I notice she “takes the edge off” ~ this may be described as an aid for reducing negative stress quality.  There is a slight improvement of mood, clarity of thoughts and a slight enhancement of sleep quality when used before bed.  My experience with our tincture, the calming effects are minimal, but any active stress levels are subdued / minimized.

Used in conjunction with various herbs, Passionflower has been explored to aid with withdrawal symptoms including opiates, alcohol, benzodiazepines, nicotine.  Studies were mostly in conjunction with other pharmaceutical medications or herbs, small sample sizes or in animal studies, so note this trend and do not assume Passionflower will be successful for all substance withdrawal.

This is a handy tincture to have on-hand for times of high stress. See safety summary / precautions below prior to utilizing this plant ally for more safe usage!

How to Use

We find for our Ultrasonic Extract Tinctures, sublingual (under the tongue) absorption held for 30-60 seconds, leads to better subjective absorption / effects.

Here’s How We In-Joy Ultrasonic Passion Flower Tincture:

  • ¼ dropper to 2 dropperful used to “take the edge off” or promote relaxation.
  • Infuse ¼ - 1 dropperful into a warm cup of tea or infuse into water to drink.
  • Combined with other calming Ultrasonic Tinctures (ie. Tulsi, Skullcap, Bobinsana)

Precautions

Avoid if you are pregnant - use of Passionflower Tincture may elicit contractions or cause damage on newborns.  Do not use if you have a known allergy to Passionflower.  Passionflower has numerous drug-herb interactions so speak with your doctor if you are taking any pharmaceutical drugs (ie. anti-depressants, blood-thinners, barbuitates, benzodiazepines).  May have mild MAOI properties intensifying certain herbs / medications. Avoid use with excessive alcohol.

Safety Summary

Ultrasonic Passionflower Tincture is not well-studied for short-term or long-term consumption.  If you consider usage with Ultrasonic Passionflower Tincture, consider experimental use with short bursts!  Avoid concurrent usage with certain pharmaceutical drugs or supplements as mentioned above.

Avoid usage in pregnancy or breast-feeding ~ This is an experimental product without much safety data in this population.

Wonderful recommendation by Doc to me for anxiety. Been using it as needed when I feel the tensions building up in my abdominal area. I use one full dropperful every 20 minutes until I feel the ability to breathe coming back. Once I feel the relief in the form of freedom in my stomach area, the effects last 2-3 hours. Why manifest through all these micro tensions?? Passionflower and breathe! Pull more of what you WANT into your field. Peace, and neutrality <3

Firstly let me start off with saying that usually Once I get stressed and start getting anxious I rarely can get myself out of it and I really don’t know How to handle myself when I get stressed, however I had a recent stressful time in which I thought heck I’ll try this passionflower and I was shocked that I was able to better control my anxiety it didn’t get rid of it as such it just brang such a calming sensation over me that allowed me to move past the problem and go into other techniques (Breath etc…) which usually I find difficult when I’m stressed. It’s my go to when I feel stressed now and it seems to work very well for Me so much so that I just had to write this review for it.
