Dr. Nick's Notes

Thyme has been a powerful ally with its various chemotypes providing a multitude of characteristics towards wellness. Upon traveling to Peru, I used white thyme essential oil frequently when eating food from street vendors and to aid in adapting with altitude sickness. Thyme is said to assist with high altitudes, perhaps by increasing oxygen absorption into the brain.

Amazingly enough when I traveled to Peru, I had virtually no noticeable differences when I flew from Lima (sea-level - 5,000 feet) to Cusco (~11,000 feet) which I attribute to multiple variables: lion's mane, cordyceps, reishi, coca tea on the plane & ingestion of thyme daily. My lack of physiological differences between the two locations was utterly astounding.

Thyme essential oi is quite powerful due to it's high concentration of phenolic groups and comparative to oregano - several studies have analyzed use of thyme oil for preserving food (see links below). Vaporized, red thyme is rather harsh (similar to oregano, though powerful!) and combines well with oregano. I've found Thyme linalol to be quite smooth and effective for cough & cold, helping to expel gunk and clear the infestion.

When I took 1-2 drops Thyme linalool essential oil in 16 ounces of water at the onset (w/in 30 minues) of abdominal cramps (due to food poisoning), my health improved completely within about 2 hours. Using red thyme, 1 drop in 16 ounces of hot water while stirring and waiting 5 minutes before drinking (or inhaling!) works wonders as a smooth medicinal drink.

How to Use

Thyme oil is quite powerful. Thyme linalool (white thyme essential oil) is smooth enough for vaporization and mixes well into water at dilutions of 1 drop/cup (8 ounces). Take care with the red thyme (Thymus vulgaris), it's considerably spicy and can irritate the mucosa if used at inappropriate concentrations!  They are BOTH quite powerful extracts

Home vaporizing: 1-3 drops of white thyme essential oil (Thyme linalool essential oil) in a small hot of boiling water. Close eyes and softly inhale the steam vapors.

Consult a physician or aromatherapist before considering to use red thyme essential oil internally!

I am using this along with Cinnamon and some Can Candida (for good measure) for a custom mix diluted with fractionated MCT oil. I am treating some bumps on back of head (from constant shaving.) I am also using it for other skin rashes.
