Dr. Nick Notes

Mountain Savory (aka Winter Savory) produces a rich essential oil that seems to vary considerably between countries of origin, cultivar and time of season extracted.  This powerful plant expresses a bouquet of immune-modulating constituents that lend aid to an adaptable human.  Diluted into a carrier oil, Mountain Savory Essential Oil may be used to support an upset stomach or food poisoning when traveling internationally.  A few drops can be added to vitalize your favorite body wash or shampoo, just take care not to get into the eyes!

Potent phenols such as thymol AND/OR carvacrol seem to be major constituents amongst the various origins / sub-species of Mountain Savory Essential Oil and provide powerful anti-microbial qualities.  One study found effectiveness within five Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi), four Gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus faecalis) and five pathogenic fungi (Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, Candida rugosa and Saccharomyces cerevisiae).

For a great scented pure essential oil that greatly supports immune function and keeps pathogens at bay, Mountain Savory Oil is perfect.  Applied topically (diluted) on sore joints and muscles provides a gentle warming quality to reduce rheumatic pains.  Savory Oil has a superior constituent profile leading to powerful expectorant qualities when inhaled or vaporized into the lungs - can be a powerful way to support the body during cold | flu season.  Dilute into jojoba oil to promote reduction of acne when applied topically.

We hope you In-Joy this less commonly available wild herb!
