Dr. Nick Notes

Gingko Biloba (aka Maidenhair Tree) is an exciting plant which I first discovered when I was in my early 20s.  When I went for a 3 week travel through Japan, I harvested a bag full of fresh leaves from this gigantic, historic tree which I dried out and gnawed on for several years.  I remember enjoying fresh leaves from the tree and ate the leaves daily - my experience found a saturation point with Gingko where after eating a fair amount, I would experience increased pressure in my head / that developed into moderate headaches.  There is a sweet spot with dosage to honour with this plant!

Gingko has been well-studied with over 4,000 studies in the literature found on PubMed.gov and over 10,000 links via Google Scholar (May 13th, 2020).  Gingko has been evaluated for heart health, cognitive function, supportive use in various cancer types.  Many of these studies have been evaluating a standardized Gingko Biloba Extract.  A fair note the standardized GBE will be different in terms of dosing / possible constituents / ratios of compounds when compared to our Ultrasonic Extract Tincture, though I extrapolate the data of results may have similar results to our product / extract.

Gingko Biloba has been evaluated in a review and found 8 studies where Gingko Biloba & Extract have aided different populations with symptoms of tinnitus.  Gingko Biloba was evaluated as a pretreatment with maintenance use to aid with acute altitude sickness and aid the body’s adjustment to abrupt / differing levels of oxygen, in participants without prior experience with high altitudes, with success in a small study.

The GB leaf has been shown in some studies to improve cognitive function, and possibly help prevent progression of dementia symptoms or memory problems related to Alzheimer's.  Gingko Biloba has also been shown to enhance blood flow to the brain, support clogged arteries and other minor pains associated with circulation.  Increased blood circulation may also be the mechanism relating to some noted improvement of hemorrhoids in the literature with Gingko use.

Our Ultrasonic Gingko Biloba Tincture is a powerful extract from this plant and should be avoided in certain populations or risk factors.  With anti-platelet properties, those who have issues with clotting or scheduled for a surgery should avoid Gingko.  Notable and likely clinically significant drug interactions using Gingko Biloba include antiplatelet drugs, certain SSRIs & statins - definitely connect with a health-care professional if you are using other pharmaceuticals before exploring this tincture!
