Dr. Nick Notes

Cananga essential oil is related to and similar to the more common Ylang Ylang essential oil, considered on the essential oil market to be a cheaper grade or quality extract. Cananga is derived from the flowers of a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia that can be pink or yellow ~ yellow flowers are said to be the best for steam distillation. A common tree in Indonesia, its flowers are often worn as adornments and placed on the beds of newly married couples.

Cananga I feel is more targeted, balanced with green in its aromatic notes & presents a perfect ally in some therapeutic formulas and botanical perfumes.  Traditionally cananga flowers been used by locals of the area to treat infections such as Malaria, brewed into a tea or the flowers steeped into coconut oil. The fragrance promotes a brighter outlook on life and enhances sensual experiences – I’ve found that Cananga odorata generally increases sex drive, with Ylang Ylang Complete and Ylang Ylang Extra increasing in potency compared with Cananga (Cananga odorata var. macrophylla).

Less commonly available green floral extract that will tantalize your scents-es!

  • Use in aromatherapy to brighten your day and to enhance sensual play with a partner (wrist points, fun to apply to various parts on body very diluted)
  • Use highly diluted (<1%) into a carrier oil to support acne and minor insect bites.
